Shah Cheragh Terrorist attack

A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday night as an armed terrorist attack occurred at the Shah Cheragh shrine, situated in the southern city of Shiraz, Iran. The attack resulted in the loss of at least two lives, with an additional eight individuals sustaining injuries.

According to reports from state media, the attack involved two terrorists who engaged in a shooting rampage. One of the assailants has been apprehended by security forces, while the second individual remains at large.

The terrorist had an AK47 rifle with a total of 240 live bullets but with the intervention of security forces and people, he only managed to fire 11 rounds.

The responsibility for this grievous assault has been claimed by the Daesh terrorist group

Investigations into the tragic terrorist attack is still underway.

The terror attack has been strongly slammed by Iranian officials.

Iran's President, Ebrahim Raeisi, has issued a directive to Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi and Fars Province Governor Mohammad Hadi Imaniyeh, urging them to promptly identify and take appropriate measures to bring the perpetrators of the terrorist attack to justice.

Raeisi also conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the grieving families of the victims.

Iran FM vows revenge

Meanwhile, in a post on his X social media account, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Shiraz and warned of a “painful end” for the perpetrators and supporters of the heinous crime.

“A painful end awaits the perpetrators and supporters of this crime. While condoling the martyrdom of one of my compatriots, I ask Almighty God for the health and recovery of those injured in this tragic incident,” he tweeted.

The attack has also sparked condemnations from outside the country. Ammar al-Hakim, the leader of Iraq’s Al-Hikma (Wisdom) Movement, slammed the terrorist attack while also expressing condolences to the families of the victims and the Iranian nation. He called on the international community to boost cooperation aimed at uprooting terrorism.

This was the second Daesh terror attack at the shrine. On October 26, 2022, an armed terrorist barged into the shrine, killing 15 pilgrims, including women and children, and injuring dozens more before he was shot and injured by security forces.

The terrorist later died of his wounds in hospital. Several suspects were immediately arrested, and, some two weeks later, the Intelligence Ministry announced the arrest of 26 Takfiri terrorists for their involvement in the attack.
